Oil Painting Canvas
The Oil Painting Canvas that brought two soul mates together.....
This is an amazing ten year love story which brought my friends Alex and Lucy back together with the help of fate, destiny and an oil painting canvas.
Back when my friends were just twenty years old Alex was having a study break in Venice from his American university, when he met Lucy who was travelling throughout Europe during her summer vacation. Their shared love of art had made Venice a beautiful place to stay for the entire summer.
They immediately fell in Love and spent their weeks together eating ice cream, enjoying romantic walks and spending lazy mornings in bed before drinking red wine and rich Italian espresso late into the night.
One day upon perusing the beautiful markets of Venice they came across a stall where an old man was selling coins. They both stepped closer and the old man stared at them in great interest. The man said to Alex and Lucy whether they wanted their love to last for all eternity? They both laughed and nodded, both still of course lost in their romance. The man then proceeded to pick up a very odd looking coin and snapped it in half, leaving the coin in two pieces with a jagged centre...The old man with the weathered skin and piercing blue eyes then punched a hole in both halves of the coin and threaded string through both and held out two necklaces for both Alex and Lucy to wear. The man then told them both that if they wanted to seal their love and ensure it lasted a lifetime that they must both ride by gondola under the famous bridge of sigh’s at sunset that night. He told them that they must kiss as the bells tolled and they would enjoy everlasting love.
Both Alex and Lucy chuckled to themselves but Alex’s arm tightened around Lucy’s waist as he whispered to her that it would be a very romantic thing to try... After helping each other to put on the necklaces they turned around to thank and pay the kind old man, but he was nowhere to be seen.
That evening they took the gondola just as the sun was setting and as they approached the bridge of sighs and the bells began to toll they shared the most amazing kiss. They were both taken a back as the kiss was so charged and so passionate that they both knew that they had already fallen truly and deeply in love.
As the summer came to an end both said their goodbyes as Alex headed back to America, and Lucy to London. They had both agreed to stay in touch by letter and telephone calls until they had both finished university.
Months passed and the letters and phone calls became fewer and one day Alex called Lucy. Her stomach flipped as it always did and she rushed to the phone. Lucy’s legs felt weak as she slid to the floor in silence upon being told that Alex had met someone else and planned to marry. As the years went by Lucy thought about Alex a lot but concentrated on her love of art whilst working for a top London Art Gallery. Lucy quickly became manager and was soon head hunted to run a New York Art Gallery where she planned the exhibitions and spent hours enjoying the beauty of the oil painting canvas. By this time it had been ten years since Lucy had seen Alex and often wondered if she would recognise him if she were ever to see him again.
